Downtown BBQ Showdown

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Saturday is a big day for an annual barbecue event going on in downtown Meridian.

Gates open at 10:00 a.m.in Singing Brakeman Park for the Downtown BBQ Showdown. This is the fourth time they have had the tasty competition. The Kansas City Barbecue sanctioned event is expected to draw a large crowd. Multiple teams from all over the southeast are taking part in the competition, which has a grand prize of $1000. Event coordinator Cara Shirley says there will be something for everyone

“We have bands coming in. we have Timmy Segar, Machine Machine, Luv Undercover and the Jimmie Rodgers Singer Songwriter of the Year Richard Ryan. He’s going to be performing for us tomorrow too,” Shirley says.

“We will have our people’s choice event where there’s pulled pork and the public gets to come in and taste the pulled pork. At the end of the competition we will award winners for all the categories,” Shirley says.

The Downtown BBQ Showdown kicks off at 10 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. admission is $10 for adults. Kids 12 and under get in free. The showdown is presented by the Radio People and Coors light and will go on rain or shine.
