EMBDC holding business workshops in March and April

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The EMBDC along with MSU Meridian is holding several different workshops over the next two months with the goal of helping local business men and women.

“[They are held] Just to refresh your memory on what’s appropriate in the workplace and new things that have come about like sexual harassment, new communication skills that you could probably use for this new generation,” says Apryl Leggett, the administrative assistant for the EMBDC. “It’s just a good refresher course and a good way to learn new things.”

Some of the workshop topics include workplace safety and business and personal branding. Organizers tell us that these workshops are a good opportunity for the community to come together.

“We’re hoping it’s going to be a big turnout, we want to help educate the community on workforce development kind of things, so we’re hoping that the workforce community gets involved and learns new things with this,” Leggett says.

In the age of social media, it’s becoming increasingly important to keep up with all of the changes to have success in business.

“The most important takeaway should be to learn new things that are going on right now in today’s society and also being able to apply it to the business world and to also your life,” explains Leggett.

Organizers tell us that having these workshops will have a positive effect on businesses here in Meridian.

“It brings people here to communicate with each other, to understand what’s new in the business world,” says Leggett. “It brings a new sense of enjoyment in working in the business because you learn about social media and you learn about your communication skills, you learn about what you should and shouldn’t do in your workplace.”

You can register or find out more about the workshops at embdc.org or you can call them at 601-693-1306.
