Eagle Club Recognition Breakfast held Thursday
The 12th Annual Eagle Club Recognition Breakfast was held Thursday morning to recognize members of the local community who are part of the 2020 Friends of Scouting effort.
Joseph Aviles, an Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow chief, was excited to speak at the event.
“It was awesome, I love doing that, and I’m so glad I was able to do that,” Aviles says.
Aviles says it was great seeing so many members of the community come out to support the scouts.
“It meant a lot to me, especially knowing how scouting has molded me and instilled values into me. It made me feel really good to see everyone here to give back to that and to invest in that.”
The featured speaker at the event was Dan Hampton, an NFL hall of famer and Super Bowl Champion. Hampton says it’s really important for the future of Meridian and the surrounding area to invest in the Scouts.
“These are the young men and girls that will define how Meridian, Mississippi is going to be as a city, a region, a county, 10, 20, 40 years from now. This is where it starts.”
Around $183,000 was raised at the event.
