Group places flags in a local neighborhood in honor of Memorial Day
When a Meridian resident was out of town and saw flags lining the street to honor a fallen solider, she wanted to find a way to use that idea in The Queen City- and she did.
Local scouts and NAS Meridian servicemen placed flags along Poplar Springs Drive Thursday evening in honor of Memorial Day Monday. The group placed one-thousand flags in the area.
People from The Navy League, The VFW post and Poplar Springs Residents helped provide the flags.
One scout leader explains what he wants his scouts to learn from this act of kindness.
"A sense of belonging to the community, realizing what service members provide for us," Scout leader Billy Seltzer said.
The group plans to do this again for Veterans Day along with a parade and a dinner for veterans.
