MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK)- Many families are returning home from a long trip out of town as the turkey holiday weekend comes to an end. Newscenter 11 spoke with people stopping in Meridian about their holiday travel.
Thanksgiving travels can be one of the most hectic times of the year as people journey 50 miles or more away from home.
“Going to Huntsville to Biloxi was kind of hectic. We left Biloxi at about 10:00 in the morning. This is our first stop, and we had no problems so far,” says traveler Russell Shaffer.
“Going back to Atlanta now. Then we’ve been all around the state for Thanksgiving already. We had plenty of traveling more than I want really,” says traveler Mark Engram.
One family says they beat the Thanksgiving traffic by getting a head start Wednesday morning.
“It was actually really successful. We left early on a Wednesday. We left 5:30 in the morning, so that did help. We left today from Baton Rouge Louisiana on our way to Huntsville Alabama. So far so good, it hasn’t been nearly as hectic as we thought,” says traveler Allison Kana.
More than 55 million people traveled this week for Thanksgiving, according to AAA.
