Former Kemper County sheriff dies

DEKALB, Miss. (WTOK) - Former Kemper County sheriff, Sam Tisdale, has died at age 66.

According to a family member, Tisdale suffered a stroke Thursday and later died at a Meridian hospital.

Tisdale was the first African American to be elected sheriff in Kemper County, in 1999. He served two terms. Tisdale was also a minister.

A celebration of life service will be held Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. at New Hope Christian Life Center in DeKalb.

Viewing will be Wednesday night from 5:00 to 7:00 at E.E. McDonald Funeral Home in DeKalb and one hour before service Thursday at New Hope.
