Former county employee charged with theft
A former Lauderdale County road department worker has been charged as part of an ongoing investigation.
Charles Edward Houston was charged with one count of embezzlement. His bond was set at $10,000.
This is the second arrest of a former Lauderdale County employee.
Officials say they discovered the misuse of fuel cards, costing the county in the neighborhood of $250,000.
"His arrest is a part of an ongoing investigation that we have had into county employees issued with fuel that is either being stolen for personal use or procured in the name of Lauderdale County, then resold to others," said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun.
Calhoun says he expects more arrests in this case as the investigation continues.
