Former Republican gubernatorial candidate, Robert Foster, has endorsed Bill Waller, Jr., in the Republican Primary runoff for governor.
Foster finished third in the 3-man primary Aug. 6. He received 18 percent of the vote.
No candidate received at least 50 percent plus one so the runoff is between Tate Reeves, who received 49 percent of the vote, and Waller, who got 33 percent.
The runoff is Tuesday, Aug. 27.
“This endorsement is a big momentum boost," said Waller. "And I’m very grateful to Robert Foster for his support. Robert Foster ran a strong campaign and he’s a true conservative who shares my beliefs about taking on the toughest challenges facing our state instead of ignoring problems.”
“I didn’t become one of the most conservative House members by selling out my convictions, and I am not going to start now,” Foster said. “Our shared values are too important to sit idly by on the sidelines and spectate. In December, I committed to do what’s in the best interest of all Mississippians, and I intend on keeping that commitment. In the end, we each just have one vote, or we can stay home. But if you don’t want to see Jim Hood win in November, I encourage you to join me in voting for Bill Waller.”
Foster joined Waller for the announcement event in Hernando Tuesday morning and had other stops scheduled throughout the state.
