Future of Frank Cochran Center

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The status of the Frank Cochran Center was discussed at a city council work session Tuesday. The center was closed at the beginning of December after a fire.

Mayor Percy Bland says the damage and repairs could cost around $500,000.

The Cochran Center is a popular venue for events. The mayor says he wants to continue that tradition but says the building needs to be modernized and expanded.

"To have all those pieces come together is going to take some time. We first need to get our final number off the fire claim. The fire claim by itself will, of course, not pay for all of that. It will give us some leverage in dealing with some other things," said Band.

There is no timetable yet for the work or the re-opening of the Cochran Center.
