Friday, July 5 Morning Forecast Discussion

By  |

Happy Friday! Temperatures are starting off in the low-to-mid-70s with clouds noted mainly south of I-20 on our Friday morning. We’ll see partly cloudy skies today with a chance of a pop-up shower or storm in the afternoon, but the main story will be the heat. Temperatures are expected to climb mainly into the upper-90s, but when you factor in the humidity it could feel as high as 108. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and limiting strenuous activity outdoors. We’ll make our closest approach to an air temperature of 100 tomorrow under mostly sunny skies.

The area of high pressure responsible for the heat will start sliding to our west by Sunday, and thus we will start to cool things down a bit. However, it will still be oppressive outside as we close out the weekend and head into next week.

A series of disturbances will be pushing through our area next week, bringing with them a chance of showers and storms each day. Right now I am leaving us with pop-up storms every day. I don’t have enough evidence yet to justify bumping up rain chances at some point next week, but stay tuned to the latest forecast in case things change. Highs next week will mainly be in the mid-90s, but feels-like temperatures will still be in the triple digits.
