Gas prices on the rise this Memorial Day weekend

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - You may be planning to hit the road this Memorial Day weekend to visit family or maybe just escape rain in the forecast. Prices at the gas pump have been on the rise with the unfortunate timing of a big weekend for travel. Locals we spoke to tell us about the effects of the rising prices on their holiday plans.

“Honestly, it’s really not, but I can see how it could affect a lot of people though, with gas prices continuing to rise up a lot,” says Eric West.

“It is affecting it because gas prices are going up too high for me to just be jumping on the highways. It just costs too much money. We need the gas to go down, not up,” says Jazhon Holt.

According to GasBuddy.com, as of May 21, the average price for gas in Mississippi is $2.60 per gallon.
