MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - A Meridian woman has launched a campaign to give children more chances to read.
Adrian Cross works for the Meridian Freedom Project and the Meridian Public School District and says she wanted to come up with a way to promote literacy.
Over the next week, Operation 'Give a Child a Book' is asking residents to donate books for all ages, pre-K to high school.
"Not all children can afford books," said Cross. "Not all children are able to go to the public library. But if we can put books where they are, they'll be more than likely able to read them. Hopefully, I can encourage parents to read with their children more."
The campaign continues through next Friday. You may donate books at Citizens National Bank locations on Highway 19, North Hills and downtown Meridian or at Dub Street Fashions on 20th Street.
