Grand jury issues final report

Lauderdale County's latest grand jury has issued its final report.

During a 4-day session in October, the panel heard testimony from thirty witnesses. It returned 246 indictments and 46 no-true bills.

The grand jury did not tour the courthouse, sheriff's department or jail.

Grand juries for many years have expressed concerns about the buildings' condition, especially the Lauderdale County Courthouse, for mold, leaks and aging plumbing. This report did not address those issues.

The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors has hired an architect to make renovations and improvements to the courthouse and has said it hopes the work can begin soon.
