CLARKE CO., Miss. (WTOK) - Recent rainfall has caused many road problems across our area, including in Clarke County.
Clarke County EMA director Eddie Ivy says they are watching river and creek levels closely, like the Chickasawhay River and other creeks that tend to flood with excessive rainfall. County Road 252, 694, and 6941 have been affected by recent flooding and Ivy says crews have been working diligently to get those roads back open.
“We encourage people, if you do come upon a flooded roadway, don’t try to drive through it. A lot of people think, ‘oh, it’s just a couple of inches deep, I can make this.’ But at night especially you can’t see what might have happened below that water, the road might be completely washed away,” Ivy explains. That’s why the road department and emergency personnel place barricades and barriers up.”
Additional rainfall is expected over the coming days.
