Heavy rains cause flooding throughout city

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The heavy rains passing through the Meridian area have led to several flooded streets and neighborhoods in addition to stranded drivers throughout the city.

City officials are urging drivers to stay off the roads, especially if they appear to have standing water.

Several streets have been blocked off and/or are currently impassible. Some of these streets that have been flooded include, but are not limited to, parts of 24th Ave. and 14th Street, 36th Ave and Davis Street, and 5th Street near the S curve. At least 10 cars have been reportedly stuck or stranded due to high waters. A few people had to be assisted out of their vehicles that were stuck in the water.

A few wrecks have been reported on the Interstate, but the extent of any injuries are unknown.
