Hundreds turnout for Junior Auxiliary Ball

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The Junior Auxiliary Ball was a major success Saturday evening as the party welcomed hundreds of people.

With this year's theme being Mardis Gras, there was a lot of drinking, eating and socializing at the annual fundraiser. Normally, the organization raises around $30,000, but Saturday they announced they exceeded that amount raising $41,975. Organizers say the money will go to children who are in need of everyday items in Meridian and Lauderdale County.

"So we do an annual sponsorship drive where we collect donor money and this is kind of our event where it is a fundraiser, but it’s also an opportunity to showcase who we are and people enjoy it. They look forward to the particular ball,” Junior Auxiliary President Kim Knight explains. “So it's a chance for us to let loose and have fun, but at the same time it supports our mission so it's a great opportunity to combine the two."

Knight says the Junior Auxiliary has five major service projects they perform throughout the year.
