Insurance agents offer advice during hurricane season
As forecasters are keeping their eye on Tropical Depression Harvey, many people are preparing for the storms it could bring.
We're at the peak of Atlantic hurricane season right now, and insurance agents at State Farm say it's a time they often see more people come in. It's important to check whether your homeowner's insurance is up to date, and agents say it's best to do it sooner rather than later.
"Whatever you do, do not wait until the last minute to try to get insurance on your home," office manager Larry Gill says. "If it's a bad enough hurricane coming, they will stop where no insurance companies are writing insurance and you don't want that to happen and be left out."
Gill says if you are affected by a storm, you should use temporary tarp for your roof and make sure to file a claim with your insurance as soon as you can.
