Investigation of fatal high-speed chase continues

NEWTON COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - Law enforcement says a pursuit began after a Neshoba County deputy approached a car parked on the side of County Road 503, near Union.

The driver allegedly drove away and refused to stop. At one point, the deputy is said to have lost sight of the car, but came upon the scene where Christopher Cleveland crashed into the woods off Greenland Street.

Witnesses told law enforcement Cleveland appeared to be traveling anywhere from 90 to 100 miles an hour before hitting this embankment and going airborne into the woods.

Law enforcement has chosen not speak on camera about the crash, while the investigation is ongoing.
