Johnston, Tate vie for open Senate seat
A new state senator will soon be chosen to represent Mississippi's District 33. Current Sen. Videt Carmichael is not seeking re-election.
Republicans Jeff Tate and Bubby Johnston are the only candidates on the ballot. They said early on election day they're confident in their ability to win. Each talked about the journey to this point.
"Here we are on election day and that's the way we've put this campaign on, and it's time to see where the chips fall today," Tate said.
"This whole process has been a positive experience for us," said Johnston. "We've enjoyed going out all over the district meeting folks in Clarke and Lauderdale county."
The winner of the primary will be the next state senator for District 33 as there are no other candidates on the ballot in the general election in November.
