LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - Law enforcement warns the public that the so-called 'jury scam' is again making the rounds locally.
Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says the scammers have been using his name, along with others from the sheriff's department, to try to get money from residents.
Calhoun says deputies and court officials do not ask for money from people who fail to show up for jury duty. He says if someone claiming to be with the sheriff's department asks for money over the phone, do not do so, just hang up.
Circuit Clerk Donna Jill Johnson says the scammers may not mention money till the second or third time they call. But she says even if you did miss your call to jury duty, money is never requested.
