MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - 'Country Music' is a Ken Burns film series, airing on public television in the fall, that highlights Meridian artist Jimmie Rodgers. Writer and producer of the film, Dayton Duncan, visited Meridian Friday for a special screening.
Before the screening, Duncan visited Rodgers' grave and his museum at Highland Park. He said he was glad to see Rodgers had a museum in The Queen City.
"Sometimes people who were really important in history aren't remembered and honored as much as they ought to be in the places they came from," Duncan said. "I hope the people of Meridian understand what a giant figure Jimmie Rodgers is in music."
'Country Music' features other Mississippi artists, like Marty Stuart and Elvis Presley.
The 16-hour docu-series will air on PBS over eight nights in September.
