LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - The Clarkdale campus was hit hard by illness this week. Three hundred eighty-three student absences were recorded Friday as flu and flu symptoms strike hard in Lauderdale County and elsewhere.
Because of that, the Lauderdale County School District says it's taking aggressive action.
The district has hired a local cleaning service to spend the weekend sterilizing the entire Clarkdale campus. It includes cleaning all carpets, mopping all floors, wiping down all walls, doors, desks, chairs, lockers and disinfecting all hallways, bathrooms and the cafeteria.
School administrators says buses are also being disinfected.
Other LCSD schools are aggressively increasing their cleaning and disinfecting efforts during the flu season to help mitigate the uptick in confirmed cases.
The Lauderdale County School District says it's committed to safety and fostering a healthy learning environment for all students, faculty and staff.
The district asked everyone to practice healthy hygiene habits.
