LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - The Lauderdale County Detention Facility is calling all job-seekers for a special job fair this week.
Anyone interested in learning more about becoming a detention officer can stop by the jail to pick up an application and talk to other law enforcement officials.
Right now, there are about seven detention officers slots open at the jail, and Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says these are important positions that need to be filled.
"While a uniformed officer may be out dealing with an individual, when they bring them to our county jail, they walk away," he says. "These detention officers have to deal with these individuals for could be days, more likely months or sometimes even years."
Calhoun says they want to make sure they're filled by the right people.
"We don't just pick somebody who comes through the door and hire them," he says. "There is a process we go through, a background check they have to complete. Again, we're looking for individuals who have the temperament to work in this type environment. "
If you missed Wednesday's job fair, you can stop by the Lauderdale County Detention Facility Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. or from 1 to 3 p.m.
