LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One is reviving the local Toys for Tots campaign in Lauderdale and Clarke counties after a 9-year break.
Coordinator, Sgt. Demarckus Adams, and assistant coordinator, Sgt. Mykel Watt, will announce details Friday at 2 p.m. at center court at Bonita Lakes Mall.
Toys for Tots has partnered with several local organizations and businesses.
MSU Riley Center and MSU-Meridian are partnering with Toys for Tots this year by asking guests who attend the Diamond Rio Holiday & Hits concert scheduled for Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. to bring an unwrapped toy.
Marines are partnering with Meridian Community College to be on hand at two basketball games collecting toys Dec. 3 and 6.
Boxes for donations will be placed at multiple stores throughout Bonita Lakes Mall in addition to East Central Community College, MCC, local Walmarts, Chunky River Harley Davidson, Weidmann's, Riley Center, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Home 2 Suites and Comfort Inn.
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community.
There are nearly 40,000 Marines, Marine Corps League members, veteran Marines and volunteers involved in annual campaigns.
All toys collected will remain in the local area and be distributed though the Wesley House Community Center and Salvation Army.
