MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Associate Pastor Wade Phillips at Northcrest Baptist Church received the news about the Texas church shooting when he got out of church service Sunday morning.

"This is a fellow southern Baptist church that was hit and to see the devastation there, it just reminds you that this could happen at any church at any time really,” says Phillips.

Phillips says he and the rest of the church are devastated about the incident.

"An attack on one church is an attack on every church, because we are all one body. The body of Christ."

During Northcrest's afternoon service, time was taken to mourn and pray for the victims and those involved in the shooting.

Phillips mentions the church has security measures in place for situations like the one in Texas.

"I don't know if you could prevent anything like this,” says Phillips. “We have a security team. They are out every Sunday and at all our services and doing their best to keep us safe."

There were 26 people killed and 20 people injured in the mass shooting.
