LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) Many schools let students out of class early Thursday due to the severe weather threat.

We talked with Northeast Elementary Principal Lisa Shelley about how she prepares her school when the district decides to let kids out of class early.

She says the staff notifies the teachers and parents of the early dismissal. Principal Shelley says the day of early dismissal, teachers and staff are split up to make sure the students get home safely.

"We have walkie talkies with our teachers and staff that are out front for the car pickup lines," said Shelley. "They are communicating with the staff in the gymnasium because there where the students are. So as their name gets called, then they go out to the car pickup line."

Most schools in our area will be off Friday for Good Friday and the Monday after Easter.
