Local stores prepare for Small Business Saturday

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - While Black Friday winds down for the big box retailers, locally owned, small businesses are gearing up for a big weekend!

Tomorrow is Small Business Saturday and small, mom and pop owned businesses across the area are offering customers big sales and specials. Small businesses often offer unique gifts and personalized, customer service that you might not find as some of the giant chain stores. At the liberty shop in Downtown Meridian, owner Robbie Hales says Small Business Saturday is a big day for her business and explains how this important day got started.

“This movement that American Express started several years ago has really turned into a movement to support small businesses all year long not just the Saturday after Thanksgiving but it's a great thing,” said Hales. “It emphasizes mom and pop stores if you will and every dollar that is spent sixty-seven cents stays in the community and that’s so important this day and age.”

About 67 "million" customers are expected to shop at small, locally-owned businesses across the US on Small Business Saturday.
