MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Meridian’s only marathon is set to begin Saturday morning in downtown.
The eighth annual Magnolia Marathon will start at 7:00 a.m. More than 200 runners will take to the streets in this year‘s race. The marathon will cover much of downtown and several main roads as part of the course. Magnolia Marathon is a charitable event that raises money for Alzheimer’s awareness.
“Our race starts downtown by City Hall. We are going to include lots of areas downtown. We are also including Poplar Springs Drive, 23rd Avenue, 10th Avenue and some of the cross streets. There will be runners out all day until 3:00 p.m,” Race Director Evelyn Watkins says.
Watkins says the race brings in people from all over. She says there are people from 25 different states racing Saturday.
