The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department has arrested a man for abuse of an infant.

Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says 21-year-old James Vaughn is being charged with abusing his own child.

Calhoun says investigators were alerted by doctors at a local hospital when the story of what happened didn't match the injuries. He says the child has been placed in protective custody and Vaughn is in jail.

“Many times these cases take a little bit of time to investigate depending on what’s going on with them. They are certainly looked into and when appropriate, we charge individuals,” Calhoun says.

Vaughn is being held in the Lauderdale County Jail on two counts of child abuse and a total bond of $40,000.
