Wooten formally charged for Apr. 28 fatal shooting

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Marcus Wooten of Meridian was officially charged Monday morning with the murder of 30-year-old Tajh Forbes on April 28th. Wooten's arrest was delayed because he was injured after being shot by a bystander that night. Municipal Judge Robbie Jones says it's still unknown who that third party is.

"From what information the court has gathered, it was just a bystander who saw a crime committed and realized somebody had just been seriously wounded," Judge Jones said.

Wooten arrived to court on a stretcher. During his initial court appearance he seemed to be under the influence of medication, causing his preliminary hearing to be pushed to Tuesday.

Judge Jones said from what he knows, the victim was not a threat to Wooten. He said the death of the victim could have been ultimately avoided.

"It makes no sense to the system for someone to have lost their life by simply sitting in a car," Jones said.

As of Monday police have not revealed a motive for the shooting or if a motive is known.
