MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Members of the Martin Volunteer Fire Department participated in a training exercise Saturday morning.
The training included removing people from a vehicle after an accident and airlifting someone who has been injured. Participants from the department were able to work with actual people who were role playing as injured citizens.
There was a helicopter from Air Care that members helped place a crash dummy in. Fire Chief Jeremy Pogue said, if necessary, he wants members of his department to be able to perform the skills they learned with few mistakes.
"It's not something you do often so when you do it, you want to be on your game," Pogue said.
Pogue said the department does not do much of this type of training but considers Saturday morning's training a success and plans to do more in the future.
