MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The 2018 Christmas parade is set to get underway at 5:30 Saturday afternoon.

“The theme is ‘Christmas in the City’ so are hoping to see a lot of floats that depict our city or other city scenes that represent Christmas,” Cultural Affairs Director Laura Carmichael says.

Floats will begin lining up on 25th Ave. The parade will start by making a left-hand turn onto 8th Street.

“It’ll go down toward 14th Street, then turn onto 8th Street then Front Street and come up 22nd Avenue,” Carmichael says.

If you would like to get one of the best seats in the house, there are multiple locations that qualify. Bleachers are set up at Dumas Plaza on 22nd Ave. Or you could view the festivities from 23rd Ave.

“You can park in the parking garage and campout right there in front of city hall. They are great locations,” Carmichael says.

Just in case weather becomes a factor in postponing the parade, those announcements will be made Saturday.

“We are hoping everything is going to be good, but around 1:00 p.m. we will make a call if needed. We will make sure to get that information out through our city of Meridian Facebook page,” Carmichael says.

“It’s just a wide variety of organizations that come together and share the spirit in our community. That’s what it’s all about,”

Floats and parade participants will line-up on 25th Avenue. The parade begins at 5:30 p.m.
