Children treated to musical version of classic story

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Local children got to see a classic tale with a bit of a twist, courtesy of the Meridian Council for the Arts.

"Goldie B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears" was presented at Highland Baptist Child Development Center Tuesday. This is a musical version based on scenes from operas by W.A. Mozart and J. Offenbach.

The opera was performed by The Natchez Festival of Music Educational Outreach, designed for and presented to young children in Mississippi and Louisiana.

Performers say this is a fun way to introduce children to opera.

"To reach children at the earliest age possible and just involve them in music and make opera especially seem accessible and fun and relatable. And I think Goldie B. Locks is a fun way to do that. And it's fun to perform for kids," said Grace Denton, who plays Mama Bear.

The Natchez Festival of Music funds these performances so it is completely free for children.
