Seniors at Meridian High School had the opportunity to apply for Meridian Community College and other colleges of their choice at a campus event Monday.

MHS hosted its College Application Day, where seniors had the opportunity to start the process, with guidance from Meridian Community College.

"It is a festive day, because that is the goal, to set students on to college and careers here at Meridian High School," says Victor Hubbard, MHS principal.

MHS has been preparing these students to move on to college since they started ninth grade. This day is an important one for students to help narrow down their school or career choices.

"Today is important because the students are filling out applications. And we're wanting to send a message: just don’t fill out one application of a particular college, but make sure that you're surrounding yourself to have multiple opportunities so that you can have something to select from when you are making your final choice," Hubbard said.

For students who are undecided, there's no need to worry. There are still steps you can take, according to Hubbard.

"It's O.K. to be undecided at this point," the principal said. "But make sure that you are sending out your resumes to colleges and universities. Make sure that you are writing letters of interest to your college of choice.”

The career center is also available to students at any time for guidance on how to apply for college and for tips on how to succeed.

"Throughout the year, our students are able to come to the career center and find out information about scholarships that are out there that is open for them to apply for. We always tell our students to apply for as many scholarships that is possible. You never know what's to come down the road for them to have that opportunity to go to that school of their choice," says Hubbard.
