Meridian murder suspect previously arrested for stalking
Meridian police are releasing more details surrounding the shooting death of a woman at a local motel.
Investigators are now saying the suspect, James Starks, was arrested just last Friday for stalking and was potentially facing another charge of domestic violence aggravated assault. They say those charges involved the same woman Starks is accused of killing.
Police say the victim went to the police department on January 4th to file charges against Starks for choking her. Detectives say these charges, along with the evidence, were presented to a city judge for a warrant to be signed.
The judge decided there was insufficient evidence to sign the felony warrants. Starks was released on his own recognizance for the stalking charge on Friday, January 10. The shooting took place early Monday morning.
Police say they were waiting on more evidence in the domestic violence aggravated assault case and were working with the victim before her death.
