A second person has died as a result of the cold weather. This marks the second cold weather related death in just two days.

Coroner Clayton Cobler says a 62 year old man was found inside of a home on 11th Avenue and 18th Street.

Cobler says the man was living in a home that had no heat and no power turned on. During the cold season there are places for people to go and agencies in the city of Meridian ready and willing to help anyone that is in a similar situation.

Executive Director of the Wesley House Rev. Dave Shutlz says there are options.

“We do try to do things with bill pay assistance, but it is a challenge because of funding. We do the best we can with what we’ve got. There are other organizations. Multi County Community and Salvation Army can help as well,” Schultz says.

Be sure to dress in layers and if you know anyone that might not have power or a source of heat this winter be sure to check on them regularly, even in the night.
