It's a day when Americans can empty out their medicine cabinets, turn in their old or unused medications, which authorities hope will cut down on drug abuse.
Drop off locations in Meridian are at Total Pain Care Friday and Bonita Lakes Mall Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Lieutenant Rita Jack of the Meridian Police Department says this day brings awareness on many fronts.
"Our goal is to educate the generation to come on how to safeguard their medication as well as how to properly dispose of the medication," said Lt. Jack. "This is so we can increase awareness as well as protect our environment."
Personal lock boxes for medications will be issued on Saturday.
