MERIDIAN, Miss. .(WTOK) - Ever since the medication drop box was installed at the Meridian Police Department it has been a success.
Lt. Rita Jack says the box has yielded over 60 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs since October of last year. In the past the department would have two drug take back days, but Jack says having this accessible 24-7 helps residents even more.
“Even though we have the biannual take backs twice a year. It’s nothing compared to having 24 hour seven days a week drop box for the public to bring their expired prescription drugs when it’s convenient for them,” Jack says.
Jack says they will still put on the bi-annual drug take back days. She also encourages anyone in the entire area to utilize the medication drop box and not just city residents.
Mississippi Prevention Alliance for Communities & Colleges and Weems Community Mental Health partnered with the city of Meridian to make the drop box possible.
