MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK)- After years of multiple retail stores closing in Meridian, the Queen City is now experiencing a retail revitalization.
The past few years haven't been good on the retail front in Meridian. Rue 21, Lifeway, Sears, JC Penney, Geoffrey’s, and countless other retail stores closed shop. But there's a retail revival, so to speak, on the horizon.
Newscenter 11 has learned PJ's Coffee Shop, Ulta Beauty, Hobby Lobby, Trampoline Park, Bowling Alley and many more will open soon in the Queen City.
"All of those things add to the quality of life and to why a person would be attracted in coming and living in Meridian. That is what we are trying to package together and put on the table. We then sell and market to people around the state, so that our people aren't always going somewhere to have fun. They can have fun right here."
Shoppers we talked to are excited
"I think it's going to be very beneficial and it's going to be great for our economy. We're excited and we can't wait for those businesses to start opening up shore here in the city of Meridian," says shopper Ronald Turner.
"If you want to have fun, you have to go to Jackson to do the things you want to do," says shopper Christian Williamson.
"As a college student coming home. This will give me something to look forward to over the weekends," says Josh Lyons.
Mayor Percy Bland mention the new hype this taking place at the mall.
"it's going to be a 90,200 square foot old sears building that's going to have indoor trampoline park, baseball, you going to have where you can throw axes for competition inside. There will be an indoor track where you can ride go carts. You're going to have all these thing under one roof."
Several of the new businesses will open this year.
