MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience in Meridian loves to host community events. A special one was held Saturday that honored the men and women who serve in the military.
"We’ve got popcorn and games and scavenger hunts,” said MAX president and CEO Mark Tullos. “We've been planning this day for quite a few months and we had to get on the calendar the brass band, of course it was very important to get in their schedule so this will be a real treat."
A treat indeed. The 41st Army Band traveled from Jackson to help The MAX celebrate. The band was a crowd favorite.
Army Staff Sergeant Jacob Mitchell said he enjoyed the day.
“It’s great for the community to see this and reflect on how the military has played a role in our history in The United States and here in Mississippi,” said Staff Sergeant Mitchell.
The band played patriotic tunes for about an hour and even recognized veterans during the special show.
"It's always great to have the support of the community when we're playing different tunes, engagement is what we want,” said Staff Sergeant Mitchell.
Tullos said recognizing military heroes is something the community loves to do.
"The military is very important to East Central Mississippi and Mississippi as a whole and of course the whole country,” said Tullos.
The patriotic activities didn't stop after the concert. Visitors participated in a scavenger hunt of Mississippi artists with military connections featured at The MAX.
