MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The ‘Gateway to Meridian’ will receive a much needed facelift in the coming months.
Administrators provided details behind the multi-million upgrades for the 22nd Avenue Enhancement Project. Public Works Director Hugh Smith says people will see changes to the roadway surfaces, wider sidewalks and better traffic signals.
Another big topic point included plans for the vacant Value Fair Mall. Officials plan to work with the property's owner and come up with a swift solution as they overhaul the area. Smith anticipates this project to generate a lot of buzz as the future Children's Museum and the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Museum attract more people into our area.
"So the idea is to upgrade or to make our 22nd avenue corridor more attractive with the projects we already have coming. The Children's Museum, the potential of hotels and restaurants that pushes that development idea in that area, in that main corridor," said Smith.
This federal funded project will cost just over one million dollars to complete.
