A candidate for the Mississippi Senate race for District 33 had a special endorsement Thursday evening in Marion.

Candidate Jeff Tate received the support of the person currently in that seat, Sen. Videt Carmichael. Carmichael spoke at this evenings gathering at the Hamasa Shriners building in Marion. Carmichael says he supports Lauderdale County's former election commissioner Jeff Tate because he works hard, is a good Christian man and is right for the seat.

"I think Jeff Tate will make us a great state senator. He's been around and this is home. This year in Senate District 33 we want a homeboy. Don't we? I do," Carmichael says.

"I want to say think you to everybody that came out. Think to Senator Videt Carmichael. For his endorsement. For his years of service. And I look forward to meeting everybody in District 33," Tate says.

Erle "Bubby" Johnston is also running for that senate seat.
