PENNINGTON, Ala. (WTOK) - The Choctaw County Sheriff's Department says a Mobile, Ala., man will be charged with first-degree murder for the death of a Pennington man found dead Christmas Day.

Choctaw County secured a first-degree murder warrant Jan. 4
for Jarvis Maurice Reynolds of Mobile. Sheriff Scott Lolley says Reynolds confessed to the crime.

Ron Washington, of Pennington, was found Dec. 25 after his landlord became concerned, called deputies and did a welfare check.

The sheriff’s department says it conducted a standard death investigation, with a strong suspicion of foul play. Washington had served time for second-degree rape, was released from prison in 1997 and was registered as a sex offender.

An autopsy resulted in a preliminary finding of homicide by blunt force trauma.

Reynolds was being held in Mobile on a charge of attempting to elude and will be transferred to Choctaw County later to face the murder charge.

Lolley says the case is still an open investigation and declined to release further information.

Lolley says the Mobile Police Department, Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, the Choctaw County coroner, the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and Choctaw County Circuit Clerk's Office gave invaluable assistance to his department.
