On the Run for a Good Cause: US Marine Corps officer runs across the country for local non-profits

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Thirteen states, about 5,000 miles, and one mission.

A major in the US Marine Corps Reserve is on the run for a good cause.

Maggie Seymour is an Illinois native who's the director of Run Free, an organization she created in 2016, which raises money for non-profits while promoting health through running.

“Originally I was going to run from San Diego to Virginia Beach and call it a day”, says Seymour.

But that soon turned into a cross country journey.

“Now the goal is to cross all 50 states on foot and raise money and awareness for organizations in each state,” said Seymour.

Seymour started running through Mississippi last Saturday; this will be her 14th state so far.

She says some days are harder than others, but she doesn’t lose focus of why she’s running.

“I’m very lucky to be able to do it, so I just remind myself of that, and then I remind myself that it’s all for good causes.” Seymour said.

Since she started, she has raised at least $10,000 through online donations. The funds she raises here in Meridian will go toward the Meridian Freedom Project.

She’s now headed to Alabama. You can follow her journey on social media and donate or become a sponsor at her website by clicking the attached link on the right or bu visiting:
