MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Seventeen law enforcement officers graduated Friday from a special program that trains them for crisis situations.
Agencies from across the state including The Meridian Police Department, The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department and The Meridian Community College Police participated in the week long Crisis Intervention Team training program. Captain Wade Johnson says this training prepares officers in situations involving the mentally ill.
"It provides a safety aspect not only for them but the techniques that we train officers with provide an extra aspect of safety for the officers." said Johnson.
This CIT training started in 2012 and police hope to continue it for years to come.
