One person was found dead in the yard after a home invasion happened near Sea Warrior Road in the southeastern part of Choctaw County, Ala., Thursday night. According to Sheriff Scott Lolley, three people broke into a home; two of three suspects got away.

"Upon deputies arrival, the suspect was deceased. The preliminary investigation reveals that there is strong evidence it was three black male suspects. All three were armed, approached the homeowner's door and shot into the home. The homeowner returned fire, hitting one of three suspects," said Lolley.

Investigators cleared the scene Friday morning. Officials say the intruders kicked in the door, entered the home and started shooting. According to Sheriff Lolley, the homeowner shot back in self-defense.

"You do have the right to protect inside your home and you have the right to protect anyone inside," said Lolley.

Meanwhile, law enforcement is actively looking for the other two men involved in this case. Sheriff Lolley is hoping to gain more leads in the attempted robbery once they can identify of the man who died.

"We are in the process of confirming the identity of the suspect. We have some ideas who he is. We are going through the official confirmation process," said Lolley.

No other injuries were reported. If you have any information, please call the Choctaw County Sheriff's Department at 205-459-2166.
