CLARKE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - The Clarke County Sheriff's Office says two cellmates got into a fight Thursday and one was taken to the hospital.
Chief Deputy Barry White told Newscenter 11 that the inmates got into a fight over a sandwich and one suffered facial injuries. He was first taken to the emergency room at Watkins Hospital and then to University Medical Center for evaluation. White says the inmate was prescribed medication but required no surgery and was brought back to the jail
White declined to identify either inmate but said the one who was hurt is in his 60s. The other man, in his 30s, has a charge pending against him over the altercation.
White confirmed both men are awaiting trial, one for burglary and the other for shooting into an occupied dwelling. He says the inmates are now in separate cells.
