A petition to recall the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Chief Phyliss J. Anderson did not meet Monday's deadline.
For Chief Anderson to be recalled, 40% of registered voters would have to sign a petition to have a special election. At least 60% of voters would have to cast a ballot in that special election. Chief Anderson issued a letter to tribal members Tuesday saying in part, "the efforts to recall me, without justification, did not discourage me from doing the job the people elected me to do."
