MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Chief Phyliss J. Anderson is the first female to serve as tribal chief of The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. Today she announced her candidacy for the June 2019 election.
Anderson made the announcement among supporters at The depot in Philadelphia. The current Choctaw Tribal Chief said although she has campaigned and won before, she was still shocked and overjoyed to see so many people cheering her on.
“It’s awesome and It makes me reflect to the time in 2011 and 2015 when i had the same support that was so great to witness," Anderson said. "It’s great to witness that here today because I love what i do."
Anderson hopes to win the June 11th election and return as tribal chief for the third time.
