Play highlights black female activists

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK)- The Sunflower County Freedom Project held a special performance Saturday at Mississippi’s Arts and Entertainment Experience.

The organization performed a play "A Song for Coretta" where students displayed their talents to tell the story of five young ladies who paid their respect to Coretta Scott King. Each character was played by five young ladies of the sunflower county freedom project. Organizers say this performance is meant to educate and to empower the youth.

"we're not only giving our young people a stage to perform on to enhance their craft, but we're also exposing our people in the community. This is also building awareness to about what the Meridian Freedom Project and the Sunflower County Freedom Project do," says executive director Meridian Freedom Project, Adrian cross

Cross says these ladies travel all over the Delta to perform this event.
